The problem
The ING took over a country in open crisis: an election annulled, its presumed winner MKO Abiola treating the government as illegitimate, a national strike underway, and inflation out of control.
What was done
None of it was resolved. A Lagos High Court then nullified Shonekan's appointment and called for Abiola to be sworn in, and weeks later Abacha seized power.
