₦11 billion Katsina local-government funds case (state prosecution)

Allegation
Shema and the former chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ibrahim Lawal Dankaba, were charged with criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office and conversion of public funds amounting to over ₦11 billion during Shema's time as governor.
Outcome / Status
He was arraigned in 2016 before the late Justice Ibrahim Maikaita-Bako at the Katsina State High Court. On 13 February 2023 the Katsina State government entered a nolle prosequi, announced by its Director of Public Prosecution, and the court accepted it and discharged Shema and Dankaba from all charges. The withdrawal did not affect a separate ₦5.7 billion EFCC case against him.

Outcome / Status
As of February 2023 the EFCC's case against him over about ₦5.7 billion remained active at the Federal High Court in Katsina. We found no verdict.
