Allegation
The EFCC charged Nyame on 41 counts of fraud totalling about ₦1.64 billion, including a stationery-supply contract used to divert funds.
Outcome / Status
He was convicted on 30 May 2018 and sentenced to 14 years. The Court of Appeal substituted 12-year concurrent terms plus a ₦185 million fine; the Supreme Court affirmed the 12-year term in 2020 but set aside the fines as outrageous. On 14 April 2022 the federal government granted Nyame a presidential pardon, drawing criticism from civil-society groups.
Administration's response
As with other governor cases of the era, conviction came more than a decade after the conduct, and was followed by a sentence reduction and a pardon.
