Odii v. INEC & Nwifuru — 2023 governorship election petition
Govt Won
What the case is about
PDP candidate Chukwuma Odii petitioned to overturn the March 2023 Ebonyi governorship election result, alleging irregularities. APGA candidate Bernard Odoh separately challenged Nwifuru's eligibility, claiming he was still a PDP member at the time of the election and had submitted a fake certificate to INEC.
Ruling & compliance
The Supreme Court unanimously dismissed both appeals for lacking merit, affirming Nwifuru's election with 199,131 votes. The court held that the PDP and its candidates lacked the legal right to meddle in the internal affairs of the APC regarding candidate nomination, and that the petitioners failed to prove their allegations of certificate forgery and ineligibility.
