Peter Obi v. Chris Ngige — 2003 Anambra governorship petition
Govt Lost
What the case is about
APGA's Peter Obi challenged the declared result of the April 2003 Anambra governorship election, which PDP's Chris Ngige had been credited with winning.
Ruling & compliance
The Court of Appeal held that Obi had actually won the 2003 election, ordered Ngige removed and Obi installed. Ngige vacated office and Obi was sworn in on 17 March 2006 — a landmark demonstration that a sitting, federally-backed governor could be unseated by the courts.
