Murtala took over a government that had postponed civilian rule indefinitely, tolerated corrupt military governors, and let an oil windfall run into inflation and the Lagos port jam.
What was done
He moved fast and decisively on the transition timetable, the capital and state creation, and probed the former governors — but was assassinated after just over six months, leaving most of the agenda to his successor.
