Matawalle's administration said it inherited huge debts and liabilities from the outgoing Abdulaziz Yari government at the May 2019 handover; Yari disputed this, denying claims he left a ₦252 billion debt and insisting he instead left about ₦7 billion in credit for the incoming administration to start with.
