Barde v. INEC & Yahaya — 2023 governorship election petition
Govt Won
What the case is about
PDP candidate Jibrin Muhammad Barde petitioned to overturn the March 2023 Gombe governorship election result, alleging ballot box stuffing, multiple thumb printing, and irregularities in nine of the state's 11 LGAs. He claimed he scored the highest lawful votes.
Ruling & compliance
The Supreme Court unanimously dismissed the appeal for lacking merit, affirming Inuwa Yahaya's re-election with 342,821 votes. The Gombe State Governorship Election Tribunal and Court of Appeal had earlier reached the same conclusion, holding that the petitioners failed to prove their allegations and that their witness statements and exhibits were baseless.
