Govt Lost
What the case is about
ANPP candidate Abubakar Audu's name and photograph were crossed out in red ink on ballot papers for the 2007 governorship election, effectively excluding him; a court challenge followed on the basis that INEC had wrongly excluded him from the ballot.
Ruling & compliance
A court annulled Idris's 2007 re-election in October 2007 over the wrongful exclusion; the Court of Appeal upheld the annulment on 6 February 2008 and ordered a fresh election within three months, with Assembly Speaker Clarence Olafemi serving as Acting Governor in the interim. Idris won the rerun held on 29 March 2008, with Audu placing second.
