Allegation
Haruna was among the 31 governors the EFCC said in September 2006 it was investigating, and in February 2007 the State Assembly served him an impeachment notice alleging gross misconduct.
Outcome / Status
The impeachment notice served in February 2007 was not carried through, and he left office at the end of his term in May 2007. The EFCC later arrested him and charged him on 28 counts of fraud and embezzlement, including uttering cheques of N10 million (November 2002) and N16.125 million (March 2003). On 15 November 2012 Justice Adamu Bello of the Federal High Court, Abuja, refused to quash the charges, saying the court could not do so before witnesses had been heard, and ordered the case transferred to Adamawa State because Abuja lacked territorial jurisdiction.
