The promise
Implicit in contesting in 1999 and 2003: complete the mandate under civilian rule.
Assessment
Dariye was elected in 1999 and re-elected in 2003, but the term was interrupted twice — by a six-month federal state of emergency in 2004, and by an impeachment in November 2006 that the courts later nullified. He was reinstated by the Supreme Court on 27 April 2007 and served to 29 May 2007.

To hold Plateau State together through the recurring farmer–herder and Christian–Muslim tensions around Jos and the southern local government areas.
Assessment
Plateau saw severe communal killings during the term, including the 2004 violence around Yelwa and Shendam. President Obasanjo declared a state of emergency on 18 May 2004, suspended Dariye and the State Assembly, and appointed retired Major-General Chris Alli as administrator until 18 November 2004 — the first such intervention against an elected state government in the Fourth Republic.

To administer state revenue and federally released ecological funds for their intended purposes.
Assessment
Dariye was arrested in London on 20 January 2004 on money-laundering charges and later prosecuted in Nigeria over the alleged diversion of about ₦1.126 billion of Plateau State ecological funds. He was convicted in 2018.
