The problem
Ayade said he inherited a debt profile of about ₦403 billion (Imoke's administration separately cited a lower figure of roughly ₦382 billion) built up under predecessors Donald Duke and Liyel Imoke, with the state paying about ₦1.8 billion a month in debt service deducted at source.
What was done
The debt continued to be serviced through Ayade's tenure, deducted directly from the state's federal allocation before it reached the treasury.
