Allegation
Aliero was accused of fraud of more than ₦10 billion of Kebbi State money during his 1999–2007 governorship. In July 2008 a judge summoned the anti-corruption agencies over an alleged ₦10.2 billion Kebbi fraud, and in June 2009 a coalition of parties demanded his resignation.
Outcome / Status
No charge produced a conviction. Aliero moved to the Senate and then into the federal cabinet while the matter remained unresolved.
Administration's response
The allegation was neither proven nor formally closed; it faded as he rose in national politics.
