Assessment
Aliero was sworn in on 29 May 1999 and re-elected in 2003 — one of only four incumbent ANPP governors to hold their seats that year — serving two full terms to 29 May 2007. He later became a Senator and then Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (2008–2010).

Assessment
After he left office Aliero faced allegations of fraud of over ₦10 billion during his governorship; a judge summoned the anti-corruption agencies over an alleged ₦10.2 billion Kebbi State fraud in July 2008, and political groups called for his resignation in June 2009. No conviction resulted, and he continued in national politics.
