The problem
Osun, created in 1991, entered the Fourth Republic under a departing military administrator, with a weak revenue base and high demand for schools, health care and water.
What was done
Akande delivered on parts of the AD social programme but through a lean, cost-cutting approach whose overall effect on services is disputed, and the AD lost the state in 2003.
Fixed
The problem
Osun inherited the Ife–Modakeke conflict, one of Nigeria's oldest communal disputes, which had escalated into a sustained war of attrition around Ile-Ife by 1997–1999.
What was done
The last major phase of the conflict ended in 2000, during Akande's term, following the work of a federal committee led by Olabode George set up by President Obasanjo. The area has seen no comparable large-scale fighting since.
